Books presented to Stalingrad

Presentation: “Books presented to Stalingrad”

From January 31 to February 3, 2025, a presentation will be held in the main building of Volgograd State Medical University, dedicated to the restoration of the SSMI (Stalingrad State Medical Institute) library after the end of the Battle of Stalingrad. This historic period marked a significant milestone in the life of the university, symbolizing unity and the strength of the people’s spirit.

Immediately after the cessation of hostilities in February 1943, university faculty returned to the city to begin rebuilding academic activities and campus infrastructure. The library, which had lost the majority of its collections due to bombing, began to rebuild with the support of Soviet institutions. Many of the donated books still bear stamps and inscriptions expressing gratitude and respect toward the Hero City.

The presentation will feature unique editions from the rare books collection that were presented to the library in 1943–1944. These books have become symbols of the university’s revival and new life, playing a key role in restoring its educational and scientific work.
