“Military VolgSMU”: A Photo Exhibition in Memory of the Heroes of the University.
The opening of the unique photo exhibition “Military VolgSMU” at the Museum of History of Volgograd State Medical University became a significant event dedicated to the heroic deeds of the university’s staff, students, and alumni during the Great Patriotic War. The exhibition tells the story of the invaluable contribution of medical professionals in defeating the fascist forces and in the reconstruction of their native city after the heavy battles.
The photo documents and archival materials of the exhibition reveal the history of the heroism of students and faculty of the Stalingrad Medical Institute, who fought side by side with the Red Army soldiers. Many of them left their classrooms for the battlefield, becoming true defenders of the Motherland. Even in wartime, the institute’s staff continued their work, preparing new personnel for both the front lines and the home front.
A separate section of the exhibition is dedicated to the graduates of 1941, who, barely finishing their last exams, went straight to the front. The entire second cohort of the medical faculty, numbering 235 people, voluntarily joined the ranks of the defenders of the Fatherland. During the hardest months of the Battle of Stalingrad, the remaining faculty and students continued to train new doctors, despite the harshest conditions.
The exhibition will be open for visitors from
February 26 to March 26, 2025. It will not only be a tribute to the memory of
the heroic medical professionals but also an important lesson in patriotism for
the younger generation. We invite everyone to immerse themselves in the
atmosphere of courage and resilience demonstrated by the staff and students of
the Stalingrad Medical Institute during the war.
